Many of you will be aware of the wholly inappropriate plan to build a gypsy/traveller site on open countryside next to a small residential hamlet inbetween Newborough and Peakirk. On an agricultural field near the Decoy in Milking Nook there are plans for a change of use to residential. If this is passed it sets a precedent for the much larger transient site to be built in or near to our villages, dominating our homes.
Peterborough City Council have a tradition of rejecting Traveller/gypsy sites in unsuitable locations, but on this occasion, they have recommended approval. Hewittson’s of Cambridgeshire described the report as misrepresentative and unsubstantial. The author of the report Mr. Cundy told us he was only given a “few days to write the report”. Whilst we sympathise with him, this is inadequate for a site of such importance near to national monuments and county wildlife sites. With so many objections and in breach of national gypsy/traveller site guidance from the DCLG we cannot understand how the council have recommended approval. Unless this is part of their continued attack upon our communities. We could not believe this would be possible, but in light of such a poor report many people are suspicious. Whilst we cannot share these views as there is no evidence we are perplexed.
Please attend the meeting and make your voice heard. Do not let your silence allow this inappropriate report and inappropriate application destroy our countryside. More importantly make sure that this poor family do not have their health threatened by a dangerous site at risk to serious flooding.
